Ryan Carniaux is the name of a young trumpeter and flugelhorn player from Boston who lives in Cologne since 2006. He formed his new quartet here, a band with two horn players and without harmony instrument. His compositions are held very open and give the other players a lot of room for spontaneous ideas. An old friend of Ryan's from his student days in Berkeley, the Swiss Samuel Duehsler, is at the drums. A huge discovery for me. We recently made a few recordings together which sound fresh and inspired. The best prerequisite for a positive start for a new band!!
